So I’m going with the comic book look so of course I started my idea making with looking over a few of my favorite comic books! Any time I saw something I liked, I’d write it down and draw up an example. When I came up with a layout idea I’d draw it out with a few things I’d like to keep in mind. After I had a couple of layouts drawn out I started making them in photoshop changing things that might not work so well with trying to code it. Sometimes my thumbnails would look better on paper… I’m not entirely sure about my color scheme, but I found some great comic book fonts and other cool comic book items at http://www.blambot.com/

The problem I’m solving is simply creating a portfolio site that portrays my work well.

I need to create an online site to showcase my work for potential clients and employees.

I have a bit of a variety of work I’d like to show off and am a little unsure of how I want to categorize it. My website needs to match my actual portfolio DVD and transitions. Well I’ve actually been reading a lot of comic books lately and decided to go with that type of look. I’m not exactly sure how I want everything to be laid out but I’ve got some great ideas running around my head. I just need to thumbnail them out to see what works for what. I’m pretty close to figuring out my color scheme. I found this awesome site for choosing colors for design. http://www.colorsontheweb.com/ I suggest checking out the color wizard and the color wheel! That color wheel is awesome! I could play with that all day and find so many colors I never would have thought to go together! Well, I will update more as my idea grows!

I may not be able to show up to class tomorrow morning. I will hopefully post the blogs I was supposed to post last week tomorrow… I just haven’t been feeling very well. I just took some nyquil and I’m off to bed. If it passes tonight, I will see you all in class tomorrow.

For my Final Project I need a clean portfolio site to show off my Digital Media Projects. I will explain more later.

I never really thought about my process for design as a step by step procedure. After reading Douglas Bowman’s “A Design Process Revealed” I realized I do have a bit of a process of my own. I follow a few of his basic steps with a change here or there.

I start with acknowledging what the project is and why and who I am doing it for. I keep in mind my audience and my medium. I check out what others have done or even my own similar work. I check out what works what doesn’t work and write down all my ideas. Then I start sketching out what I think would look good, different layouts, styles, ideas. Then I take what looks like it would work best to photoshop and start laying down my main ideas for the pages, like color scheme, navigation, text size or font, different images sizes and shapes and locations. I never thought about laying out text the way he does. I think that’s a great idea to find different fonts that work well together to get a good feel for what the page will look like in the end. After spending some time on my work, I like to take a break before I get too attached to a single idea and let other people look at it and let me know where the ups and downs of the different layouts are. Then I keep working on it tweaking details here and there until I am happy with it or the project is due.
